Founded in the 1840s, Holland & Sherry was the largest UK cloth merchant specialising in supplying bespoke tailors around the world.
Based in Peebles in Scotland, the business had an exceptionally broad range of luxury fabrics and a world-renowned brand name. Alcuin backed the management buyout from the Holland family and took a majority stake in the business. Alcuin helped the company develop its Saville Row tailor Kilgour in preparation for its eventual spin-off and also the launch of a range of interior decorating fabrics. This strategic move unlocked significant growth.
The investment was successfully sold in 2003 to Tom James Company, a leading US bespoke suit supplier and a large customer of Holland & Sherry.
